Coming to Coventry, Stories from the South Asian Pioneers

Coming to Coventry records the experiences of South Asian migrants who came to Coventry from the 1940s to the 1960s. Video interviews, photographs and other personal objects have been collected to create a book, website and exhibition.

The book is a detailed insight into how the community was established in Coventry. It is packed with stories and photographs from those early pioneers. Explore early Asian life in Coventry through the eyes of those who experienced it - everything from work to weddings and hardship to holidays.

The book is available from The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, £7.99 (£10.99 incl p&p)

www.coming2coventry.org is an excellent tool for researchers and teachers. It also features stories, photographs and is being developed to include teaching resources and archive film.

A touring version of the exhibition is also available for loan to education and community venues.  Please contact us for more information or view the exhibition section of the website to view the panels.
