Jewish Way of Life
Jewish Way of Life is an interactive resource for use in upper primary and lower secondary schools that provides accurate information about Judaism and reflects the diversity of the Jewish community in the UK. It has been developed by the Pears Foundation, in association with the Board of Deputies of British Jews, and World ORT, and is supported by Learning and Teaching Scotland.
As well as the resource itself, there's an online teachers guide that provides an introduction to each of the three key units, 'Who we are', 'What we do', and 'What we believe', and includes background information, practical teaching suggestions, and ideas for lessons.
An independent evalutation of the resource, carried out among nearly 500 teachers and RE advisers in England and Wales found that:
- 96% of users found the resource highly relevant in supporting their teaching
- 94% indicated that their students had liked using the resource
- 82% agreed that the resource promoted greater understanding of people from other religions and cultures
- 73% rated Jewish Way of Life as one of their top three resources for teaching Judaism or RE
- 73% felt Jewish Way of Life helped teachers feel more confident about teaching RE.
Jewish Way of Life is also available on a free CD-ROM which can be ordered here.
